Bubbles v1 User Guide

Hello, and thank you for supporting Magpie Pedals and getting yourself one of our effects pedals! Please feel free to use it with guitar, bass, synths, vocals or anything in between.

The pedal uses 9VDC power (2.1 mm center-negative).

Bubbles v1 Front Panel

Controls:

Bubbles uses a five step sequencer to “jump in time”. So The five mini knobs are all identical delay time knobs.

Since jumping in delay time affects pitch, they are reversed from your standard time knobs (where turning clockwise normally means longer delay time). Since it makes more sense in a sequencer that clockwise is higher pitch (shorter time) and counter clockwise is lower pitch (longer time).

X for mix control

The top-left “X” knob is your MIX control. From dry only, to introducing delay, to slight boost/overdriving of the delay lines.

Wave for Feedback control

The center-top “WAVE” knob is your REPEATS/FEEDBACK control. Max it to make your pedal oscillate (more so in shorter delay times), or dial it back for your own perfect sweetspot of delay amounts.

Bubble for Time control

The top-right big “Bubble” knob is your PRIMARY TIME control for setting base-range of the five mini-pots. If you max it clockwise then going counter clockwise on the mini knobs will give you some bonkers Lofi results.

N.B. Going fully counter clockwise on the mini-pots with PRIMARY TIME maxed out will be to much for the PT2399 to handle, so it will silence that step. A very nice feature for making weird rhythms.

Snail and Rocket for Speed control

The bottom-left “Snail|Rocket” knob controls of the speed of the sequencer. It goes from slow as a snail to fast as a rocket.

Bubbles for Step control

The bottom-right many “Bubbles” knob is where you select how many steps the sequencer will use - from 1-5. Keep it in step 1 and you have a simple but powerful Lofi delay. In 2 or more steps you can jump back and fourth in time, make very melodious vibey effects, or just go completely bonkers in a sample reduced bubble-jumpy way.

The five mini-pots below the main knobs set the delay-time of each step.

You can also sync Bubbles with a 5V gate clock signal by plugging a 3.5mm mono patch-cable into the minijack input on the back.
